Zimbabwe stun Pakistan with commanding win

Zimbabwe caused their second major upset in the space of 3 days by beating Twenty20 World Cup champions Pakistan by 12 runs in St Lucia.

Set a total of 144 for victory Pakistan got off to a poor start losing Khalid Latif at the start of the third over after he was dismissed by Chris Mpofu.

Mohammad Hafeez (9) soon followed as Pakistan lost wicket at regular intervals reaching 67-5 after 10 overs.

Fawad Alam (32) and Misbah-ul-Haq (21) offered Pakistan some hope with a partnership of 51 but Zimbabwe battled back and when Fawad Alam was dismissed by Prosper Utseya the defending champs suffered another collapse to finish their innings 12 run short.

Utseya was the star of the innings for Zimbabwe taking 4 wickets in his 4 overs conceding just 15 runs.

Having won the toss Zimbabwe batted first and they were indebted to a quick fire 49 from Eric Chigumbura after they had been reduced to 64-5.

Chigumbura, partnered by Charles Coventry (30) rescued Zimbabwe helping to set Pakistan a winning total of 144.
